Today has started off really crappy. Around 6:30 this morning, dads blood pressure had dropped drastically. His heart rate had climbed as high as 150+. They started giving him another blood pressure medication. It looks like a jungle next to his bed with three IV poles and numerous bags of medicine hanging from them. His kidneys have shut down due to the septic shock. The kidney doc came in and has decided to attempt dialysis. A lot of times dialysis will lower blood pressure, because of this risk they are going to try dialysis. They are planning on doing dialysis daily for a three hour period each day. His potassium levels are high due to his kidneys and that can cause heart damage. The heart muscle gives off a particular enzyme if the heart has damage. His enzyme level is higher than it should be. Typically this would indicate a heart attack but can also be caused by kidney failure.
They just did an ultrasound of his heart. The cardiologist said that the left side looks good but they see something on the right side. They are going to closely compare it to the ultrasound from a few days ago. It may be nothing to worry about but we should know something by noon.
Right now we are waiting for the surgeon to come up to install another central line for the dialysis machine. They are giving him a ton of fluids now. I will post more as it happens.
